How to Convert PNG to JPG and What Happens to Transparency
Convert PNG to JPG
- 1Open the PNG to JPG converter and add a valid still PNG.
- 2Review the source dimensions and optionally set a maximum width or height.
- 3Convert the image. Transparent areas are flattened onto white.
- 4Preview or download the opaque JPG result.
Why transparency disappears
PNG supports an alpha channel, which can make pixels fully or partly transparent. Standard JPG has no alpha channel. Every output pixel therefore needs a visible color. Convert It uses white as the background so the result is deterministic and avoids the dark or unpredictable backgrounds some applications produce.
If you need the subject to remain transparent for a logo, overlay, or design asset, keep PNG or choose another supported format that retains alpha. Converting to JPG is appropriate when an opaque result is acceptable.
How JPG changes an image
JPG uses lossy compression. It works well for photographs, but text, sharp icons, and flat-color graphics can develop halos or softened edges. File size is content-dependent, so conversion does not guarantee a smaller file.
- Check transparent logos against a white background before converting.
- Keep the original PNG if you may need transparency later.
- Changing an extension does not convert an image. If a file was mislabeled, rename it to match its actual contents or export it again in the desired format. Rejected mismatches do not use your monthly allowance. Use the question-mark control beside Failed to read the explanation by hover, keyboard focus or tap. When two or more outputs succeed and remain available, download those outputs as a ZIP; rejected inputs are excluded. A single successful output keeps its individual Download action. Format-specific conversion pages set the initial output; you can choose another output and upload supported mixed still-image formats to use that common output.
Resize safely
When resize is enabled, choose one maximum dimension for the batch. Each image keeps its own aspect ratio, and images already below the maximum remain unchanged. Convert It does not stretch, crop, or upscale in this workflow.
