How to Extract Text from a PDF

Upload one or more text-based PDFs. Convert It validates and processes each file independently, then provides one UTF-8 TXT result per successful PDF with Page 1, Page 2 and later labels.

Extract PDF text

  1. 1Open Extract Text from PDF and choose one or more PDF files.
  2. 2Wait while each PDF is checked and processed independently.
  3. 3Use View to read the page-labeled result, Copy Text to copy the bounded preview, Share/Send to deliver the TXT file, or Download for the complete file.

What the text result contains

Pages stay in source order and each begins with a clear page label. A blank page retains its label when another page contains readable text.

Plain text does not reproduce images, fonts, positioning, columns or complex tables exactly. Complex page layouts can produce imperfect reading order.

Batches, failures and charging

Each uploaded PDF is an independent job and creates a separate TXT result. Each successful PDF counts as one conversion.

A PDF with no readable selectable text creates no download and is not charged. Invalid, timed-out, encrypted and password-protected PDFs are also not charged. OCR for scanned pages is not included.

Privacy and retention

Sources use private temporary server-side processing. Completed TXT files use the same private storage, sharing, authorization, expiration and retention lifecycle as other Convert It results. Passwords are never requested or stored.
